There’s something so special about decorating the front step for fall — it’s the very first hint of the season that greets you and anyone who stops by. This year, my Fall 2025 Front Step & Entryway is all about a fresh start with familiar favourites. If you’ve been following along, you might notice that my front door looks a little different — it’s been freshly painted! The teal is gone, and in its place is a beautiful neutral cream called Cashmere by Fusion Mineral Paint. It instantly brightened up this space and made every fall colour pop.
Even though the door got a new look, the rest of the space feels comfortingly familiar. A cozy mix of pieces I’ve loved and used for years. My topiary pumpkins, now celebrating their sixth fall in a row, still sit proudly in the cast-iron urns I painted white a few years back. Each one is nestled on a cream-colored grapevine wreath with soft fall florals around the base.
I usually switch up the florals year to year, but this time I decided to keep them exactly the same as last year. I loved how they looked so much. The apple barrels tipped on their sides are back, too. Filled with a mix of pumpkins, fall florals, and foliage spilling out for that natural, gathered look I adore.
This year, I added fresh fall mums once again, paired with perennial grasses that I’ll be keeping for next year. Living here in Zone 3 in Canada, we’ve actually had a beautiful, mild fall — which means my mums and grasses have been able to stay out even longer than usual. Because the grasses are perennials, I plan to pre-dig a few holes before the ground freezes and then place the pots right into the soil, just as they are. In the spring, I can easily dig them back up and reuse them on my front step again. I’ll also be keeping my mums in the sunroom over winter, so I’ll have both ready to bring a fresh start to next year’s fall display.
I also have a few other favourites that make their seasonal appearance each year. My fern has been with me for years — it spends the summer out here at the bottom of the steps and then moves inside once the temperatures start to dip. This year, I also added a non-hardy hydrangea that I picked up in the spring, and it’s been such a pretty addition to my fall display. Each evening, I bring my fern and hydrangea indoors, and when the weather warms up, I take them back out during the day to enjoy the sunshine. For now, I’ve been covering my fall mums with sheets on cooler nights, but soon the temperatures will drop enough that my days of bringing them in and out and covering them will come to an end — one of those bittersweet markers that fall is truly giving way to winter.
You’ll also spot some of my DIY textured pumpkins, mixed in with the ones I’ve used in past seasons. Their soft, weathered finish adds that perfectly timeworn cottage feel. My lanterns stayed the same (they’re such a staple out here!), and my door basket and leaf-and-acorn tags made another appearance — they’re little details that finish it!
Everything on the front step feels calm and cohesive this year, thanks to the new door color. The warm cream tone complements the terracotta pots, copper accents, and natural greenery so beautifully. I love how the neutral backdrop lets the fall colors shine — from the rust tones of the mums to the soft whites and browns of the pumpkins.

As the days get shorter and the air turns crisp, I love pulling up to the front of the house and seeing this cozy little display waiting at the door. It’s warm, familiar, and full of simple touches that make autumn feel special.
As soon as you step through the door, you’re greeted by one of my vintage pieces — an antique dresser that instantly sets the tone for the rest of the home. Its dark wood finish contrasts beautifully with the soft cream of the freshly painted door, and it reflects in the mirror a peek at the bench I painted years ago, complete with its garden insert — a little glimpse of cozy charm waiting just beyond the entryway.
This dresser is the perfect spot for a seasonal vignette. I’ve layered a basket with a crock filled with fall florals, and a few thrifted books. A vintage doily draped over the edge softens the look and adds that cottage charm I always love. You’ll also spot one of my DIY sweater pumpkins, nestled in the basket. Alongside them are two carved wooden geese that I bring out every fall, next to an autumn print I printed on my home printer and displayed in a thrifted frame I made over.
>Above the closet, a vintage picnic basket adds height and charm. I’ve filled it with pumpkins, old wooden spools, and fall florals, all spilling out just a little for that casual, gathered look. Behind it hangs a wrought-iron panel, salvaged from an old door window, with a simple garland of fall leaves playfully draped across the top and down one side. It brings the perfect hint of colour and whimsy to this space.
And of course, my wooden goose — one of my most beloved finds — is perched nearby, wearing a caramel-colored velvet ribbon around her neck for the season. It’s those small details that make decorating feel personal and meaningful to me.
From the outdoor urns and pumpkins to the antique dresser inside, this whole space feels like one continuous story. A blend of old and new, handmade and thrifted, and seasonal and sentimental. The warm neutrals, caramel tones, and soft textures carry the same welcoming feeling from the front step right through the door.
>Whether it’s the soft glow from a nearby lamp, the familiar creak of the old dresser drawers, or the gentle scent of fall florals as you walk in, this little entryway is where cozy truly begins.

There’s something so comforting about decorating with pieces that tell a story. The worn urns, the thrifted baskets, the old ironwork, and even the pumpkins that make an appearance year after year. My Fall 2025 Front Step & Entryway may be filled with familiar treasures, but with a freshly painted door and a few new textures, it feels refreshed and welcoming all over again. As the evenings grow cooler and the leaves start to fall, I’m reminded that home doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to feel like you. And for me, that means layers of cozy, timeworn charm, and a gentle nod to the season the moment you step through the door.
With Grace,
Kimberly
