Let’s DIY some weathered and crackled urns & risers for our fall decor! If you seen my pumpkin topiary tutorial last week, you will know that I hadn’t finished this urn that I was going to display my pumpkins in. It didn’t take me long to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with it! You can use this for every day decor and change it out seasonally. I can’t wait to see what it looks like with trees in it for Christmas! I will post the link below for the pumpkin tutorial video as well.

I have made a tutorial over on YouTube on how to create this look. I will list that below. As well I will give you some quick step-by-step’ instruction here too.
Instructions for DIY Weathered & Crackled Urns & Risers:
Start by cleaning your surface to remove any dirt and grease or waxes.
If needed give a light sanding. This is only necessary if your surface is slick. You also have an option to use Fusion Mineral Paint Ultra Grip or something similar.
I needed two coats of fusion mineral paint in the colour cashmere.
Let’s dry.
Apply a coat of Dixie bell crackle.
Let dry.
Working in small sections and quickly, apply fusion, mineral, paint, Hazelwood and Algonquin in a crosshatching/ stippling method. Don’t overwork your paint, or you won’t have nice crackles. Pat the paint with your fingers and palm of your hand to remove some of your paint and reveal the cashmere colour underneath. This helps us to get that weathered & chippy look. The video explains this very well.
Keep working until you have covered your earn completely.
Let dry and apply another coat of Dixie bell crackle.
Repeat the same message above, but instead of using Hazelwood in Algonquin, use Cashmere.
Let dry.
Rub on fusion mineral paint, liming wax, let it dry for a few seconds and buff it off. I put this over the entire surface of the urn.
Repeat with fusion mineral paint, espresso wax. I didn’t put this all over, I only placed it where I thought it would look is the dirt has built up over the years.
If you get too heavy with the espresso wax, you can always go back in with some liming wax to help remove it.
Next apply Dixie Belle dirt in the earth colour. I used this sparingly in most of the same areas I put the espresso wax. This just adds one more layer to add that build up of this urn looking like it has been sitting for years.
You are all done! I can’t wait to see how you style it! You can share comments below!
