DIY Hymn Ornament & Shelf Sitter Signs: Faith-Filled Christmas Crafting
There’s something so special about handmade Christmas decor — especially when it celebrates the true reason for the season. Today I’m sharing my DIY Hymn Ornament & Shelf Sitter Sign Kits, available in my shop. These kits make it easy to create beautiful decorations that celebrate our Saviour and fill your home with the timeless words of your favourite hymns.
Each design features layered wood cutouts with hymns engraved in the background. Whether you’re decorating your tree, creating a tiered tray display, or giving handmade gifts, these kits bring a meaningful touch to your holiday decorating.
Supplies You’ll Need

- Baby wipes
- Fine-grit sandpaper
- Heavy fishing line or threading tool for beads
- Skewers (to hold beads while painting)
- Bag clips (great for clamping while gluing)
If you’re not purchasing paint and supplies with your kit, you’ll also need:
- Aleene’s Tacky Glue
- Makeup sponges or small brushes

- Forest Green
- Berry Red
- Uniform Blue
- Mint Julep Green
FolkArt:
- Antique Gold
- Brushed Bronze
Saman Stain:
- Dark Oak
- Colonial
How to Make the Hymn Ornaments (Video Below)
- Lightly sand all the wood pieces to remove char from edges and top, if needed, before painting.
- Paint and stain each piece using your chosen colours.
- Add highlights with metallic tones like Champagne Gold or Antique Gold for a soft Christmas shimmer.
- Glue the layers together. Use bag clips as clamps while it dries.
- Paint and string the beads.
- Add ribbon or bows for a festive touch.
- Once everything is dry, your handmade hymn ornaments are ready to hang or gift.
How to Make the Hymn Shelf Sitter Signs
These mini signs can be displayed on tiered trays, shelves, or mantels.
