Decorating for Fall – Let’s Make Our Homes Cozy! Fall is one of my favourite times of year! I love the crisp air, layering up with cardigans and sweaters, sitting by the fireplace with a hot drink, and let’s not forget about all the gorgeous fall colours outside! If we are lucky enough, we will have an extended fall season as we experienced here in Alberta in 2022. Even though I’m not a cold weather, girl and winter can seem really long, some years and very cold, icy still love the fact that we live in Alberta and we actually experience 4 seasons, even know, one season may seem way longer than the rest… LOL So let’s get into some fall decor ideas.
Now, if you want to take things step further, and I always do,🙂 I like to decorate the tops of my kitchen cupboards, as well as in the entryway, where I have a welcoming tiered tray. I also decorate above the closet seasonally as well. So let’s take a look at what that looks like in my house. I like to gather pinecones, acorns, and even nuts with the shells still on to scatter around to give it an earthy feel.
If you’re having troubles finding pumpkins the right color, I just grab pumpkins from the dollar store or Michael’s and paint them. I do have some sun pumpkins that you can see that I made a drop cloth. I actually do have a tutorial coming soon, and I will link it here when it is done.
Making your own signs helps you to customize the colours and sayings to fit your decor. This is super easy to do with silk screening. I’ll leave a link here where you can go to my Chalk Couture website and see what it’s all about. See the cute little cement boxes I have, I change out the bowtie on the one for every season. 🙂
Most years, I decorate the small china cabinet and put a centrepiece on the dining room table. However, I’ve always dreamed of having a Thanksgiving table setting, full of dinner plates and pumpkin bowls, etc. However, usually by the time Thanksgiving rolls around, I am done in from a busy wedding photography season, and I end up just keeping it simple.
Last year I was able to plan it earlier much to my surprise and set it up and it stayed like that until Thanksgiving. Now that doesn’t work for everybody, as some people only have one space to eat. We however, were able to eat at our breakfast bar so I was able to leave it set up. This year however I won’t be able to leave it set up as we ripped our breakfast bar out, preparing to build our pantry. More on that to come in the future. So let me show you what I came up with for my Thanksgiving table setting.
These plates were actually a wedding gift to my parents years ago and now I have them and they work perfect for my fall decor. They are layered with my every day plain white corral plates. I found these adorable pumpkin balls at Bed Bath and Beyond.
I was having troubles finding the table runner that I wanted in my colors, so I pulled out one of my blanket scarves and used it! How perfect it fit for my decor. May be a little too busy for some people, but I liked it. Who knows what I will do this year though. The napkins are just plain tied with jute and acorns. I made these cute little acorns from velvet balls and the tops of the acorn i bought off of Etsy.
I’ve had these candlesticks for years and years and years. I bought them at a craft store and painted them up. In fact, I almost got rid of the one time, so glad I didn’t as they work perfect with this fall colour palette.
The leaf shaped placemats I also painted years ago, and they are the one thing I pull out every thinks giving. You can see my coasters tucked into the table setting from the Autumn Blessings Collection.
I would love to hear how you like to decorate and what colours you use. Do you go all out or do you keep it simple?
Stay tuned to see how I decorate my fall front step.
