Fall always brings a sense of comfort and familiarity into our home. Nowhere does that shine more than in the dining room. This season, I styled a vintage fall dining room filled with family heirlooms and cozy DIY touches that reflect the heart of our home. The space flows into our living room, creating an open area where stories are shared and memories are made.
Whether you’re decorating with thrifted treasures or passed-down pieces, I hope this peek inside inspires you to create a space that feels warm, welcoming, and full of story.
The dining table and chairs in this space were lovingly passed down from family, and each one holds a layer of memory. They’ve seen countless meals, holiday gatherings, and quiet moments with a warm cup of tea. This room truly feels like a living scrapbook of our family’s story—and I love that it opens into the living room, making everything feel connected and cozy.
From the worn wood to the patinaed details, every surface in this room reminds me of the beauty in age and use.
One of my favorite pieces to decorate each season is my grandmother’s vintage china cabinet. For fall, I filled it with pumpkin dishes, pinecones, and dinnerware pieces passed down through generations. These are the types of treasures I look forward to unboxing each autumn—they hold both history and heart.
Above the cabinet, I leaned a thrifted mirror against the wall and layered it with an original painting I created—a little rural scene that feels like a snapshot from a fall day. The cabinet isn’t just storage; it’s a space to honor the past while celebrating the season.
The vignette on top of the china cabinet is a mix of personal art, thrifted finds, and dried florals arranged with intention. The mirror was a marketplace gem, and I love how it reflects the chandelier and opens up the space. The autumn painting brings in soft seasonal colors while anchoring the display. A few collected glass bottles and acorns add charm and texture, giving the whole setup that cozy, layered look I adore.
Taking center stage on the table is an old toolbox I rescued from a garage sale. I gave it a little makeover with paint and an IOD Paint inly, then filled it with a mix of faux eucalyptus, dried florals, and fabric pumpkins. It’s become one of my favorite fall centerpieces—unique, a little rustic, and completely handmade.
Next to it, I tucked in a sweet fall touch: a printed squirrel photo in a frame I painted myself to give it a timeworn, vintage look. I love how it adds a bit of woodland whimsy to the whole setup. Everything is layered on a set of leaf-shaped placemats I made years ago and still pull out each fall—they’re simple, but they’ve become a tradition all their own.
I paired it all with knit pumpkins sitting in found crystal bowls, vintage books, and leaf-shaped candle holders. Together, they create a soft, inviting atmosphere that makes everyday meals feel a little more special.
Decorating this room for fall isn’t about perfection—it’s about telling a story. A story of family, creativity, and slowing down to enjoy the little things. I love how this dining room came together with cozy DIY touches, vintage textures, and meaningful heirlooms that give it life.
