Spring Refresh – Update your Home Decor for Spring

Spring home decor refresh

There is something so refreshing about updating a few simple home decor items, giving you what feels like a whole new living space for spring.  I know we all feel that spring itch around March, yet our weather constantly teases us until about the beginning of May in our Canadian Prairies. Mid March and into April just don’t look that pretty outside as we wait for the spring rains to freshen things up and the buds to appear.  Updating our decor and making it feel like spring is a great way to get over those dreary winter blues.

Update Your Home Decor For Spring

Spring Home Decor Ideas

Freshen up your home decor with soft colours for a light & airy feel. This year I have done this by choosing my favourite eucalyptus (soft turquoise) colour and pairing it with a soft coral/pink.  I have dark wood furnishings, soft white washed candle sticks and lanterns, and other bleached wood elements throughout my space to add a little contrast. I do like to use a lot of white and cream accessories to help with that light & airy farmhouse chic feel.

Here are a few ways to pull this all together.

Change up Your Faux Flowers & Greenery

When selecting greenery I tend to lean toward a softer green, even more of a soft sage or the blue colouring of lambs ear.  This helps pull in that eucalyptus colour I love so much. I did add in some greenery that was more to the green side this year for some contrast, and it was an extra added bonus that it had hints of pink in it.

Now the florals I choose this year I actually bought from the fall florals section at Michaels. The hydrangea is a very soft pink, and the blossoms pull in the coral colour I was after.  I also had some soft green hydrangeas that have hints of pink and eucalyptus through out to help tie it all together in my kitchen. In my living room, I opted out of the green and soft pink hydrangeas and went with a soft pinky/coral Dahlia, to keep the look consistent.

Basket of spring florals

Last year I filled a basket  to put on my sofa table behind my couch with all the  faux florals.  I change up how I decorate every year which also keeps it fresh!

Add Some Fresh Spring Throw Pillows & Blankets

Adding pillows is always an instant refresh for your space! You don’t have to store a bunch of different pillows, simply change out your  pillow covers.  This makes it so much easier to have a few different ones around for the seasons.  I have a couple solid colours I rotate out, and a few printed ones I will layer together on my couch.

A single, small square or lumbar pillow works great in a chair.  This spring I only used one solid, soft turquoise colour and one printed  Spring Market Pillow on my couch, but I typically like a lumbar or small square pillow on the couch to finish it off as well.  I may add one yet. 🙂 This spring I chose a small square print for my chairs that I layered with cream throw blankets.  Filling a basket with extra throw blankets and pillows adds a cozy touch to your spring decor as well.

Change Out Your Wall Art, Decor Signs & Other Accessories

Another way to update your home decor for spring is by changing out your wall art and cute decor signs. I have a large piece of wall art that hangs above my kitchen cabinets, that I flip over to reveal a whole new look on the other side.  In my front entry I do the same thing with a large piece of wall art. A welcome sign in my tiered tray, I change the colours for different seasons. Turn around a “Welcome to my Home” porch leaner, tosay “oh hello Spring” sign. I have a blog post all about double sided wall art, decor signs and other decor accessories that can double sided here.

Above my living room couch I used to hang a canvas that is now in my dining room. It’s replaced it with an old window frame from my grandparents farm that I can add floral elements to for different seasons. I will share photos below of from both years.

Don’t forget about your decor signs that you decorate tiered and flat trays with, welcome your guests or just simply have cute sayings.  By adding cute tags to vases, change out my coasters, add cute wooden bunnies, birds and nests with eggs throughout my space to add the feel that spring is here!  I sell most of these items in my shop.  I will leave the link if you are interested in some items or just want more inspiration. Don’t Forget About The Other Rooms Of  You House

Adding small touches into the bathroom and hallway keeps your decor consistent and feeling the same throughout your home.  Even changing your bedding out for lighter fabrics and adding some cute pillows is enough to make it feel like spring in your home.

Fresh flowers and plants is an easy way to update any room.  At this time of year I like to head out and take a few clippings from my shrubs  to add to a pretty vase of water and let them bloom indoors!

If you are fortunate to have space above your kitchen cabinets, this is a great place to add fresh decor. I always change out my cabinet decor every season for a fresh new look.  This also makes me not get bored of my items, it’s fun to pull out decor accessories I haven’t used in a couple seasons and give them a new look.

Found treasures such as old window frames turned to mirrors, antique kitchen scales, old books and candle sticks can really help pull it all together.  I found these wire cloches on Amazon and freshened them up with some paint for the look I want and then filled them with fun spring decor on my sofa table behind the couch.
